Ellis Tibere, of Guilford, who appeared in Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday, Jan. 7, was placed on suicide watch after his attorney expressed concern, following the Monday, Jan. 6, attack in Westport that left the 33-year-old woman in serious condition.

Judge William Wenzel agreed, and also recommended a competency evaluation.

According to Westport Police, the attack took place as the victim was sitting in her vehicle at New Beauty Wellness, when Tibere, wearing a mask and brandishing a knife, opened her car door and began stabbing her.

The victim attempted to kick Tibere in self-defense at which time he inflicted multiple stab wounds to her leg, police said.

Based on interviews conducted with Tibere, it appears the victim and location were chosen at random, police added. Guilford is located about 45 miles east of Westport and is also along I-95.

Tibere, who is an honor student at Guilford High School, fled the area but was stopped by Westport police after a BOLO was issued for his vehicle.

When stopped, Tibere was found to be in possession of a knife and mask and confessed to his involvement in the incident, police said.

He has been charged with criminal attempt at murder, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon.

He was unable to make his $1 million bond and is being held until his next hearing scheduled for Jan. 21, in Stamford Superior Court.
